Kol Nidre

Dear Friends and Fellow Congregants,

It has been nearly a year since the tragic and barbaric attack in Israel on October 7th.  We still are reeling from the sheer brutality waged against our brothers and sisters.  However, our pain has only been increased by the reaction of world opinion at home and abroad.  While many world leaders initially condemned the massacre, Israel’s efforts to defend herself quickly gave way to a breeding ground of anti-Semitic worldviews and baseless accusations of genocide, including at even some of the most elite American universities.

As an integral part of our shul, we all must take ownership of the endless struggle to uphold our cherished Jewish way of life.  In what has been an extremely dark year for Israel and Jews around the globe, Etz Chaim has served as a beacon of light.  This year, we’ve continued to strengthen our bonds, whether through inspirational Shabbat and holiday services, engaging educational programs, or exciting community events. Our congregation has also continued to provide a warm and welcoming atmosphere for a multitude of new families who have joined our membership over the past year.

In the coming days, you will be asked to participate in our annual Kol Nidrei appeal.  This is the most significant fundraising event of the year for Etz Chaim. All donations no matter how large or small are valuable and our goal for this year's appeal is to have 100% participation. Our success will greatly impact the shul’s ability to sustain, expand, and safeguard our cherished values.  Your contributions will directly enable Etz Chaim to provide everything that we enjoy and rely on at our shul daily.  Please join me in doing everything you can to give generously.

On behalf of our Board of Trustees, I want to extend heartfelt wishes to you and your families that you may be inscribed in the Book of Life for goodness.  May the upcoming year be filled with sweetness, peace, and a deep sense of fulfillment.  Together, let us continue to write the beautiful story of Etz Chaim Synagogue.

With profound gratitude to each of you,
Ken Jacobs, President
